After becoming a mum, I poured all of my time and energy into my family, and somewhere along the way my health slipped. I gained weight, suffered from migraines and back pain, and just felt unwell and tired all the time. My wake-up call came during a GP check-up, when she pointed out I’d been gaining a kilo a year for over a decade. That was the moment I knew I needed to make a change and start looking after myself. I was already training with Josie at Fitness Addicts, and when I told her about my health scare, she immediately stepped in with a plan. She guided me through the Transformation team, taught me how to stay consistent, balance my diet, and even adapt food preparation to fit my culture and busy lifestyle. It wasn’t easy at first, but with Josie’s support I kept going, lost the weight, got stronger, and, most importantly, regained my confidence and my health

Last year I signed up for my first transformation with one goal in mind — to feel confident enough to be photographed in a crop top. I achieved it, and the journey changed so much more than my wardrobe. Before working with Josie, I’d struggled for years with yo-yo dieting and unhealthy habits. I would starve myself, drink water to stop feeling hungry, spend hours at the gym, and never lift more than 5kg. My self-talk was destructive and I was thin but far from healthy. Then I went the other way, gained weight, and became an emotional eater while dealing with workplace bullying. Meeting Josie completely turned things around. She taught me the value of proper nutrition, strength training, and building a healthier mindset. Halfway through, I suffered a serious back injury that meant starting over, but Josie never gave up on me — she coached me through frustration and setbacks with patience and care. Now I’m stronger, lifting heavier, and feeling more empowered than I ever thought possible, ready to take on another year of transformation.

I’ve been training with Josie at Fitness Addicts for more than two years, and it has truly changed my life. When I started, I was a pack-a-day smoker with zero muscle strength. I thought if I did a workout, it didn’t matter if I grabbed fast food on the way home. My cardio fitness was okay from doing Zumba a few times a week, but I had no idea how important strength training, a strong core, and proper nutrition really were. Josie opened my eyes. She introduced me to weight training, HIIT sessions, and taught me how building muscle could help with my back and neck pain. She even got me to try her group sessions — the boxing classes quickly became my favourite. Over time, I quit smoking, lost weight, and built up enough strength to start IVF, which led to my pregnancy in 2017. With Josie’s guidance, I stayed active through my pregnancy right up until two months before my due date. After my baby was born, she eased me back into training safely. Now I train in HIIT classes three times a week in a fun, supportive environment with Josie leading us every step of the way.
Patrick
My journey is one of incredible transformation — physically, mentally, and emotionally. He was once an active kid and young adult, playing basketball and enjoying a full social life, but as he got older, life took a turn. He fell into drug and alcohol addiction, a lifestyle that lasted years and left gaps in his memory. Everything changed when his girlfriend became pregnant and he lost his job because of his addiction. Hitting that low point became the turning point — Patrick got clean and sober and never looked back. As a single dad, his priority became being the best role model he could for his daughter. A couple of years later, when she innocently told him he was fat, it hit home that he’d let his health go too, living off pies, cakes, and energy drinks. Determined to change, Patrick joined Fitness Addicts and started training. Over the past couple of years, I’ve seen him transform before my eyes — he’s lost 20kg so far, rebuilt his strength, and regained his self-confidence. He’s now part of The Body Project 2019 Transformation Team, and it’s been an honour to see him not just reshape his body but rebuild his entire outlook on life.
